How To Disable Auto Brightness on Samsung

If you’re using a Samsung device to present something to a customer or a work colleague, then the last thing you want is for the screen brightness to keep changing. If you’re using it for something like a self-service kiosk, then a dim screen isn’t a good look.

In fact, adaptive brightness is downright annoying in some scenarios. Don’t fret though, as it’s pretty easy to switch off. All you have to do is follow our step-by-step guide and you’ll soon stop your Samsung screen from dimming all the time.

What is adaptive brightness?

When adaptive brightness is turned on, it means your device screen constantly adjusts to a different brightness level, based on surrounding light. In a dimly lit room, the screen brightness goes up.

Conversely, if you’re sitting next to a window with blazing sunlight pouring in, then the brightness will go down.

Adaptive brightness uses the proximity sensor near the top of your screen to detect ambient light levels. Then your device automatically adjusts your screen brightness to suit.

How to turn off adaptive brightness on Samsung devices

Below, we’ve set out an easy-to-follow guide on how to switch off adaptive brightness on your Samsung tablet or phone.

Step 1 – Open the device settings

Swipe down from the top of the home screen on your Samsung device. Next, tap the little cog icon in the top right corner to open the settings menu.

Step 2 – Tap Display

Scroll down until you see the Display option and tap on it.

Step 3 – Toggle off the adaptive brightness setting

Locate the toggle button next to “Adaptive brightness” and tap to switch it off. This disables the automatic adjustment of screen brightness on your device.

Step 4 – Adjust brightness

Now that adaptive brightness is turned off, you need to set the brightness to the level you want to keep it at. Move the brightness setting bar to the desired level. When you exit the settings section, the brightness will remain at this level until you manually change it again.

Now your Samsung screen is set to the desired brightness, it’s ready to use. If you’re using your tablet as a device for customers, such as a self-service kiosk or event registration, then it’s a good idea to invest in a sturdy, secure, yet stylish stand.
